The breezy aroma of roasting coffee beans is enough to rouse us from our stupor, every sip feels like comfort. If you’re on your fourth cup of coffee for the day and still reaching for a fifth, don’t worry. Today is the one day you don’t have to feel guilty about your coffee addiction. It’s International Coffee Day! 

So try these 4 trendy takes on coffee and pay homage to everyone’s favourite beverage.

1. Proffee

This protein + coffee concoction is all the rage on TikTok. It can be made before you work out or post-workout. It boosts your protein intake, which is great for your muscles and overall energy level. And the best part is, it’s super easy to make! Here’s what you need to get started-

Ingredients

  • Hot or cold-brewed coffee
  • Protein powder
  • Ice

Steps

  1. Brew 1 cup of coffee, hot or cold whichever way you like it.
  2. Make one cup of protein shake using your favourite protein powder.
  3. Place ice cubes in a glass, pour ½ glass coffee in.
  4. Top it up with a protein shake and stir!

2. Butter Coffee

Before you shake your head, hear us out. It may sound weird but butter coffee is another DIY coffee trend that has really picked up this past year. A variation of bulletproof coffee, it’s usually brewed by people following Keto diets and is said to help with weight loss. Here’s how to make it-

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coffee
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoon unsalted butter
  • A pinch of cinnamon

Recipe:

  1. Brew your coffee your regular way.
  2. Add coconut oil, a pinch of cinnamon and unsalted butter to it.
  3. Blend these ingredients in a blender until it resembles a foamy latte.
  4. Serve!

3. Dalgona Coffee

This one needs no introduction. Dalgona Coffee is arguably the biggest coffee trend to hit the world of caffeine lovers. Spurred on by the pandemic and lockdown conditions, everybody who was stuck at home tried this at least once. If somehow, you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t tried it yet, here’s the quick and easy recipe-

Ingredients:

  1. In a bowl, combine sugar, coffee, and water. 
  2. Use a hand mixer or a whisk to vigorously mix the mixture until its silky smooth.
  3. Continue whisking until it thickens and forms fluff peaks when you lift your spoon. 
  4. Fill ¾ of a glass with ice cubes and milk, then dollop the whipped coffee mixture over it. 
  5. Mix it in slowly and enjoy! 

4. Mushroom Coffee:

If you closely follow coffee trends, you’ll have heard of this one before. Mushroom Coffee is a spin on regular black coffee but with the addition of medicinal mushroom powder. Popular mushroom powders used are Reishi, Chaga, Lion’s Mane and Shiitake. The earthy flavours of the mushrooms complement the coffee perfectly, here’s how to make it:

Ingredients:

  1. Coffee
  2. Milk
  3. Sugar
  4. Mushroom powder (choose between reishi, shiitake, Lion’s mane, cordyceps, etc)
  5. Optional flavourings (cinnamon, vanilla extract)

Steps:

  1. Brew your coffee your regular way.
  2. Add the mushroom powder and optional flavourings to it.
  3. Pour milk and mix!
