- Add the walnuts to a food processor and process until they form a crumbly texture. Transfer the walnut crumbs to another bowl

- To this, add the vegan mayonnaise, mustard, hoisin sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, liquid smoke, wheat gluten, cooked couscous and smoked paprika
- Stir gently until combined
- With your hands, knead the mixture for 20 – 30 minutes (This allows the gluten to activate properly)
- Divide the mixture into four portions and using your hands, flatten each section into a patty
- Heat the grill and brush some olive oil on it to ensure that the burger patties do not stick to the grill
- Add the vegan burger patties to the grill and brush a little barbeque sauce on the patties. Fry the patties for 5 minutes on one side before flipping them over and brushing barbeque sauce on the other side of the patty. Make sure that each side of the patty has a brown tinge before taking it off the heat
- To assemble the hamburger, layer the burger bun with the lettuce, avocado, pickles, tomatoes, red onions, thousand island dressing and the patty
- Serve hot!
