Vegan Burger Patty Recipes

As they say – why should non-vegetarians have all the fun? If you want to add a unique spin to your next party, we highly recommend trying out these vegan burger recipes and treating the taste buds of your guests to an unexplored world of flavours.

  1. Grilled Vegan Burger 

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. vegan barbeque sauce

For Frying

Instructions: 

  1. Add the walnuts to a food processor and process until they form a crumbly texture. Transfer the walnut crumbs to another bowl
  2. To the food processor, add the chickpeas, soy sauce and the tomato paste and blend until properly combined. Transfer the mixture to the bowl that contains the walnut crumbs 
  3. To this, add the vegan mayonnaise, mustard, hoisin sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, liquid smoke, wheat gluten, cooked couscous and smoked paprika 
  4. Stir gently until combined
  5. With your hands, knead the mixture for 20 – 30 minutes (This allows the gluten to activate properly)
  6. Divide the mixture into four portions and using your hands, flatten each section into a patty
  7. Heat the grill and brush some olive oil on it to ensure that the burger patties do not stick to the grill
  8. Add the vegan burger patties to the grill and brush a little barbeque sauce on the patties. Fry the patties for 5 minutes on one side before flipping them over and brushing barbeque sauce on the other side of the patty. Make sure that each side of the patty has a brown tinge before taking it off the heat
  9. To assemble the hamburger, layer the burger bun with the lettuce, avocado, pickles, tomatoes, red onions, thousand island dressing and the patty
  10. Serve hot!

2.  Spicy Green LentilBurger 

Add a bit of spice to your life and your palette with this spicy green lentil burger recipe. 

Ingredients

  • 1 cup green lentils dried
  • 1/2 onion chopped
  • 1 carrot finely chopped in a processor
  • 3/4 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup pepitas you could use sunflower kernels too
  • 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal and 3 tablespoons water, mimics and egg
  • 3/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 4 tablespoons tamari, low sodium
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil for frying the ‘burgers’
  • 2 cups of water

Instructions: 

  1. In a large saucepan, add the lentils and water and bring it to a boil
  2. Once the water starts boiling, turn down the heat and cook for 20 minutes
  3. Drain the liquid and set the lentils aside
  4. In another bowl, mix the flaxseed meal with the water and set it aside for 10-15 minutes 
  5. In a large bowl, mix the lentils flaxseed meal and the rest of the ingredients until combined
  6. Divide the mixture into 6 portions and form circular patties of each portion. You can add more breadcrumbs if the patties cannot hold their shape
  7. Heat the oil in a frying pan and cook the patty for 5 minutes on each it or until it gets a golden brown tinge
  8. Assemble the burger with all your favourite condiments, a bit of lettuce and tomatoes and enjoy
