Appetizers You Can Make Using Tofu


Tofu is the most delicious ingredient for a quick snack. With its high protein content and low carbs, it has lots of health benefits to offer and makes for an excellent source of amino acids, iron, and calcium. This versatile and nutritious ingredient can be modified the way you want. Take a look below and enjoy these appetizers with a healthy twist!

1.Tofu Beetroot Kebab


These crunchy patties have a burst of flavour that you will savour for a long time! Keep these ingredients ready for a quick hot snack.

Ingredients

1 cup grated beetroot
1/2 packet firm tofu (not extra firm)
1 tsp dry mango powder (amchur powder)
A pinch of chaat masala
1/2 tsp garlic paste
1 tsp dried, roasted & crushed pomegranate seeds
A pinch of rock salt
1/4 cup cashew nuts for stuffing, chopped
1/2 cup oats for coating the patties, crushed
Oil to fry

Instructions

1.Take the grated beetroot in a big bowl. Add the tofu in it, along with the dried mango powder and crushed pomegranate seeds.
2.Mix and mince with your hands. Add the rock salt and a pinch of chaat masala.
3.Mince some more and form round patties of medium size. Put the chopped cashew nuts as the filling in the middle. Finish rounding up your patty and coat it with the crushed oat power.
4.Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry these patties on a light simmer. Take out when the coating looks golden brown.
5.Plate it nicely with a generous side of traditional green chutney. You can also serve it with schezwan or hummus dips.

2. Tofu Tikka




This is a perfect evening appetizer which requires minimum effort and time. Go crazy with these skewers!

Ingredients

1 pack of firm or extra firm (preferable) tofu, pressed for 30 mins and cubed
1 red onion, diced
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 tomato, diced
Oil of your choice

For the marinade

1/2 cup curd (dahi), thickened
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp dried Methi leaves
1/2 tsp red chili powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1/4 tsp garam masala
1 tsp oil
Salt to taste

Instructions

1.Take a bowl and add all marinade ingredients at once. Mix it well.
2.Add the cubed tofu and the diced veggies to this marinade, mix well and keep it in cling wrap for an hour.
3.Heat the oil in a frying pan and add the tofu and veggies to it. Sauté it on alow simmer for 2-3 minutes and keep stirring to cook all sides.
4.Place the tofu and veggies on toothpicks or skewers and grill them in a preheated oven.
5.Serve hot with a bowl of mint chutney for the ultimate gastronomic experience.

3. Tofu Poppers

Ready in no time, these poppers are a great appetizer to munch on while you await the main course!

Ingredients

1 block of extra firm tofu, pressed and sliced into long pieces
Oil to fry
Salt to taste

Marinade

1/3 cup chickpea flour
2 tsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp red chili powder
Minced garlic
Salt to taste

Instructions 

1.Mix all the marinade ingredients in a bowl with a little water and stir it until it becomes a thick sauce.
2.Dip the pieces of tofu in the marinade and let it rest for 30 mins.
3.Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the tofu pieces.
4.Serve hot with a dipping sauce of your choice.
