Cheese. Fruit. Match!

Wondering what to serve at your next dinner party? Try this unique cheese and fruit platter which perfectly balances the creaminess of cheese and freshness of fruits. Different fruits pair well with different cheeses. Here are a few of our recommended combinations:

fruit and cheese snack

Apple and Brie

You can take any type of apple and make a classic combination with brie. Cut the apple in really thin slices and top them with slightly thicker slices of brie. Be careful to not cut the brie too thin as the juicy apples will over power the cheese flavour. This combination has a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness.

Figs and smoked Gouda

Figs are well known for their sweet flavour and sweet aroma, but did you know this velvety fruit pairs amazingly well with smoked cheese. The flavours of fig tone down the smokiness of Gouda and the sour taste of the latter brings out the complexity of the fig.

Cranberry and Mozzarella

Cranberry makes for an all time favourite party drink and pizzas topped with mozzarella are the number one party starters. It is as if cranberry and mozzarella are a match made in heaven because when paired together the sweetness of the fruit balances the mild taste of the cheese creating a new gustatory sensation. We would recommend Get Nature’s Best whole dried cranberries as they are not sweetened beyond recognition like others.

Apples, almonds, pear and Camembert

When apples, pears and almonds are paired with Camembert, the rich and creamy cow’s milk cheese, one is sure to experience nothing but sheer indulgence.

Pineapple and Parmesan

Parmigiano reggiano a.k.a parmesan is the cheese with a gritty texture, strong savory flavour and a sharp, fruity-nutty taste. When grated on pineapple, Parmesan will make you experience gastronomical euphoria in every bite.

Pear and Blue Cheese

What sets blue cheese apart from the rest is that it is made using raw cow’s milk and is aged for 60-90 days in controlled temperatures giving it a sharp and salty taste. This fruit and cheese combination is delicious and is a favourite amongst many. So roast the pear and pair it perfectly with blue cheese.

The good part about snacking on cheese and fruit together is that you can have them without any guilt. Although cheese has high fat content, a couple of slices every week do us no harm. The fruits are endowed with goodness and have high vitamins, minerals and fibres. This definitely makes a healthier and a tastier snack than a fried alternative.

DIY Easter eggs

This Easter we hope your Easter basket is full of joy, happiness and a lot of pretty Easter eggs. Make some of the prettiest eggs with easily ingredients around the kitchen. Here are some DIY tricks we have up our sleeves.

Marble eggs

Marble Easter Eggs

All you need for this is whipped cream, food colours of your choice, white vinegar and hard boiled eggs waiting to be marbelled. Thaw the whipped cream in a baking dish and swirl the colors using a toothpick or a knife. Soak the hard boiled eggs in vinegar for 10 minutes, this allows the eggs to absorb the colour. Remove the eggs from vinegar and pat them dry. Then cover them in the coloured cream mixture and let it sit for atleast 15-20 minutes. Remove the excess by gently placing the eggs in a bowl of water. Pat dry and allow to dry completely. And tadaaa! It’s ready.

Matte and shiney eggs

Matte and shiny Easter Eggs

While matte eggs can be made simply by colouring them with acrylic paints and letting them dry, to make shiny and glossy eggs all you need to do is rub bacon fat or little vegetable oil on them once they are dry.

Pastel eggs

Pastel Easter eggs

Bring out your favourite colour pots and paint your favourite patterns. If you would like to go the natural way, use spices or vegetable dyes for an organic feel. For example to get a natural yellow dye, boil water with distilled white vinegar and turmeric. Add the eggs in this and let them steep for atleast 30 minutes and upto 3 hours as per the desired intensity of the colour. Swap the turmeric for red cabbage to get a blue/purple dye.

Laced up eggs

Laced up Easter eggs

Decorate your Easter eggs with your favourite fabric hues. Use old ties, scarves or even lacey border and make your masterpiece just with a little help of Fabric glue. Rest the eggs against a pin board that will help them dry perfectly.

Enjoy your Easter.

Natural Aloe vera summer cooler

Below are a few interesting ways to include it in your diet:

1)Juice it: One of the easiest ways of consuming raw aloe is to make it into a “juice.” Don’t juice the whole stem, instead remove the gel and mix it with water and drink. To get the gel, peel away the skin using a sharp knife, crush the meat inside and use as needed. Since aloe is naturally a little bitter, soak the cut pieces in water overnight and then drink only the water. You can also blend it with fresh fruit juices such as oranges, lemons or grapes.

2)Use it in Salads: Add small pieces of raw aloe to salads with some herb garnishes. Mix the aloe gel with salad dressings. It pairs well with strong flavors, such as sesame seed oil, hot peppers and garlic.

The many benefits of the plant make it a great addition to your daily diet, and its effect on the skin in the summer is endless too:

1. Helps heal burns and sores.
This is one of the widely known uses of aloe vera. The aloe gel can be used topically to speed up the healing process of skin ailments such as sunburns and sores. It has a cooling sensation that soothes the skin and helps to reduce inflammation. The presence of anti-inflammatory properties in aloe vera provides instant relief to irritated, red or aggressed skin. Get some aloe vera juice in a spray bottle, and get spraying!

2.Improves skin health and prevents signs of aging
Aloe vera hydrates the skin and thus aids in boosting overall skin health making it soft and supple. Compounds found in aloe vera help in increasing collagen production thus improving skin elasticity.

3.Helps to reduce dental plaque
A lesser known fact is that aloe vera can help prevent tooth decay and gum diseases and is effective in reduction of dental plaque. Aloe vera potentially kills the bacteria and yeast in one’s mouth thus fighting dental plaque. Aloe vera juice mouthwashes have been proven effective if done on a regular basis.

4.Detoxify your body
The high amino acids, vitamins and minerals content, makes aloe vera highly beneficial for your body when had as a drink. The aloe vera juice strengthens digestion and helps naturally get rid of any waste. It’s a knight in shinning armor for those suffering from IBS.
